Activity Descriptions:

Free Choice/Self-Selected Activity Time: All indoor/outdoor activity centers are open. Activity centers include art, dramatic play, sensory, language/literature, math, science, and music. Children may play outside on the outdoor equipment, garden or bring class materials outside for enjoyment such as crafts or books.

Group Meeting: The group will meet to explore a curriculum topic. Curriculum topics are based on children’s interests. The group meets to discuss the topic and plans for ways to learn more about that topic. The children’s ideas will be used to plan small and large group activities.

Assembly: The class will meet once more to discuss the day’s events and findings. Assembly often concludes by listening to a story, singing songs, and/or dancing.

Curriculum

Curriculum experiences are largely organized by the high school child development students. Students will design curriculum activities based on interests expressed by the children. These activities will be offered during free choice/self-selected activity times. High school students will be planning and implementing a curriculum with the Reggio philosophy in mind. All lesson plans and activities are pre-approved and supervised by our teachers.

Family Engagement

Due to the high number of staff members present in the classroom, we are unable to offer volunteer opportunities to parents. We recognize that the family unit is essential in maximizing the development of the whole child. Events are typically organized throughout the year when parents are invited to share their child’s experience. We understand that in some cases, parents may feel the need to remain in the classroom while their child is adjusting to the transition of attending preschool. We ask that parents limit their time in the classroom to 30 minutes or less.
